Legacy Migration Guide
Note: This resource is for Legacy Frase users looking to move to the new Frase application. If you’re brand new to Frase, head back to the Getting Started Crash Course!
We've organized this resource into two sections: FAQs and a step-by-step migration guide.
Frequency Asked Questions
Q: Why is Frase changing? The current version works fine for me.
A: Frase has evolved to meet how content works today. While Legacy Frase focuses on content optimization, the new Frase adds strategic intelligence and a complete end-to-end workflow—from site audits and topic strategy to optimized content and publishing.
Most importantly, the new Frase is built for both traditional SEO and AI search visibility, helping you understand what content to create and why it will work, not just how to optimize it after the fact.
Q: Do I have to switch to the new Frase?
A: No. Migrating to the new Frase is completely optional. You can continue using Legacy Frase if it meets your needs.
Q: I don't want to migrate right now - how do I access my Legacy Frase account?
A: Rest assured, unless your account is migrated to the new Frase application (accessible through next.frase.io), you can still access Legacy Frase by logging in through app.frase.io.
Q: Why should I consider switching?
A: The new Frase is designed for teams that want to write smarter, not just faster. By switching, you gain:
Strategic guidance on what to create next
Built-in optimization for Google and AI search
A unified workflow from research to publishing
Clearer insight into what’s working and where to improve
If you want more confidence that your content will perform before you invest time creating it, the new Frase is built for that.
Q: When do I need to switch by? Will I be forced to switch eventually?
A: There is no required deadline to switch at this time. We’ll provide advance notice well ahead of any future changes, and customers will never be forced to migrate without ample time and support.
Q: Can I try the new Frase before switching?
A: Yes. You’ll be able to explore the new Frase on a 7-day free trial to understand how it works before fully committing to a migration.
Q: How much will the new Frase application cost?
A: When you migrate to the new application, your subscription (if eligible) will remain at the same price as it was in Legacy Frase. If you are on an older, deprecated plan that is ineligible for migration, you'll be invited to start a free 7-day trial.
For paid plan migrations, you may notice some limits look a bit different from your Legacy account in the new Frase application. These are explained in depth here.
Please note that usage-based credits such as article and image generation could lead to increased costs if your usage increases on the new application, or you purchase new add-ons not offered in Legacy Frase.
All pricing and billing can be viewed within new Frase by navigating to Settings > Billing & Usage or on our pricing page here.
Q: What happens to my billing cycle when I switch?
A: Your billing cycle and subscription will remain the same after migration.
Please note that while in Legacy Frase, your credits refreshed on the 1st of the month, this will now occur on the date of your next billing cycle.
Example: Monthly billing cycle date is on the 4th of each month > credits also refresh on the 4th of each month.
Q: Are plan features or limits changing?
A: The new Frase application introduces new capabilities focused on research, strategy, intelligence, and workflow automation that do not exist in Legacy Frase.
IMPORTANT: Some features have different names than what you're used to in Legacy Frase. Here's what's changed:
"Content Projects / Research Docs / SEO Credits" are now "Research Docs". You can create Research Docs through the left sidebar > Research tab. These are NOT the same as "Article Credits".
"Rank-Ready Credits" are now "Article Credits". You can also create additional content beyond blogs like pillar pages, service pages, and landing pages. If you purchased Legacy Frase's Rank-Ready add-on, your remaining articles will migrate with you.
"Outlines" are now "briefs". You'll have approximately double your plan's Article Credit limits for brief creation. Briefs can be created after Deep Research OR from our fast-tracked content creation flow.
If you purchased Legacy Frase's AI Visibility add-on, never fear - we've got this power in the new Frase application under AI Visibility's "Tracked Prompts".
Your Legacy Frase subscription will include the same (if not more) power repackaged into evolved, future-focused tools like Site Audit, AI Insights and Opportunities, and end-to-end integrations and CMS publishing flows.
If you have any questions on how your current plan translates into new Frase, reach out to us at [email protected] anytime.
Q: Are all my favorite features still available?
A: Legacy Frase’s core functionality you rely on is still available, and many features have been enhanced.
The biggest addition is strategic intelligence that comes before writing—so you spend less time guessing and more time creating content that performs.
Q: What’s actually new in the new Frase?
A: Key additions to new Frase include:
Strategic content intelligence and Site Audits
Frase Agent, an AI strategist to guide content decisions
Optimization for both SEO and AI search visibility
A complete workflow from research to publishing
The result is a more connected, strategy-first content management experience that helps you win on search.
Q: What if I have team members—do they all switch at once?
A: Team migrations are handled at the account level to ensure consistency. Once your Legacy Frase account has been migrated, your teammates will receive an email invitation to set up their account and join your organization. This must be completed within 24 hours.
If you opt to start fresh in new Frase before migrating your Legacy account, note that the free trial includes 3 user seats.
Q: Will my workflows change?
A: Core workflows in new Frase work about the same or BETTER than in Legacy Frase. The new Frase adds strategic layers before you write—so you create with more clarity and confidence, not more complexity.
After you migrate, you’ll also have access to integrations like Google Docs, Notion, Wordpress, Webflow, and Sanity to make importing and publishing your content a breeze.
Q: Is the new Frase harder to use?
A: No—most users find it easier. The experience was rebuilt around how content teams naturally work: research first, strategy next, execution last. That means fewer clicks, clearer steps, and better outcomes.
What’s even better - we’ve rebuilt a brand new Crash Course to teach you everything you’ll need to know to ramp up fast in the new application.
Q: Will my content governance settings transfer automatically?
A: Content governance settings will not be migrated automatically. You’ll need to set these up again in your new Frase account.
We offer Google Docs and Notion integrations to make importing your governance docs easier than ever.
Q: Do you have guides or training to help me get started?
A: Yes. You can access the New Frase Crash Course here. It walks through everything you need to get up and running quickly.
Q: How does the new Frase handle security and my business information?
A: The new Frase follows industry-standard security practices to protect your data and business information. Your content and insights remain private and secure.
Q: What happens to my existing content and documents?
A: Rest assured all of your existing live and archived documents from Legacy Frase are migrated to the new Frase. You can then arrange the docs you need into Projects as needed, and archive / trash any docs you no longer need.
Q: How long does it take to transfer my content?
A: Most migrations complete in just a few minutes. You’ll be notified once the transfer is complete. Please note migrations with higher volume or larger docs may take longer.
Q: What do I do if my migration doesn't go through as expected?
A: If you notice your migration is taking longer than usual or experience any errors, please go back and try again to see if that resolves the issue.
If not, you can select "Start Fresh" to begin a new trial, where you'll see a migration banner on the Dashboard and within your account's Settings. If you are still not able to migrate successfully through these routes, please reach out to us at [email protected] so we can troubleshoot further.
Rest assured, until you are migrated you can still access your Legacy Frase account as usual through app.frase.io.
Q: Can I switch back if I don’t like the new version?
A: Since migration is optional, you can return to Legacy Frase if the new experience isn’t the right fit for you. Reach out to [email protected].
Q: How do I contact support if I need help or want to share feedback?
A: Legacy Frase customers remaining on or moving to the new Frase application can reach our team at [email protected].
